Loving the Words of God

All of us have access to scriptures.  But how often do you hold, cherish, seek after and honor the scriptures as a true pearl of great price?

Do you think there's even the slightest possibility that you, too, may take them for granted sometimes?

The next time you grab your scriptures to read from them, remember what these Chinese people did when they first received their Bibles.

Then hold them to your chest, close your eyes, and thank He who made them available to you.

"This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate
therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is
written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou
shalt have good success." (Joshua 1:8)

  1. I went to a fireside once where an LDS man who worked for a car manufacturer in Africa told how the natives there received the Book of Mormon when it was first given to them. It had not yet been translated into their language, so they could not read it or even understand it If someone else was reading it to them. However, they could feel its truth and would clutch it to their heart and express gratitude for it. This helped me realize how much I take the scriptures for granted.

  2. One of the most powerful keys to my love of scripture is hearing others talk about what they have learned. For all of my independence and strong-willed-ness, I really do love seeing others' example. One of the most effective ways we humans learn love is to experience it, and to see it amongst others. Hearing those who know and love God, and who know and love what He has taught them through scripture, is one of my most favorite things ever. :) So, I seek out those who have that love, and learn from them all I can. It refreshes my spirit, draws my heart out to the Most High, and makes me happy. :)
