Canon
- NEW! Scripture Notes
Scripture Notes is a new ultra-flexible program using the LDS canon with powerful 1-click tools from every verse like Blue Letter Bible for Hebrew/Greek, Webster’s 1828 Dictionary, Bible Hub for 28 translations of the Bible and additional resources, and the LDS Citation Index. Make unlimited notes at the verse level, do Boolean searches and save them to collection notes. Open Topical Guide and Bible Dictionary entries displaying all the verses to study from. Additional features and content coming. - KJV Bible, Book of Mormon, D&C and Pearl of Great Price
- Inspired Revision of the King James Version of the Bible (maintained by the Restoration Branches of the LDS Church)
- Quad Study Helps
- Random Scripture Generator
The Bible
- Online Parallel Bible (Just about everything you'd like to know about every Bible verse).
- Blue Letter Bible (Has a terrific search engine and gives you 16 different versions/translations of each verse along with a Strong's concordance, Hebrew/Greek lexicon and dictionary aids. You just need to click on the letters found in the small box on the left side of the verse. There are commentaries available, but you don't have to read them if you don't want to).
- BibleWebApp.com (John Dyer of the Dallas Theological Seminary has created a web app which is both powerful and easy to use. http://www.biblewebapp.com will deposit you right in the scriptures with two panes side-by-side showing the Bible in English and either Greek or Hebrew. The English edition may be changed to the KJV with the pull-down menu in the upper left. Navigating to other verses is easily done in the search box by typing out the reference, or selecting book-chapter-verse. The amazing thing about the Bible Web App is that as you hover your mouse over a verse on one side, the verse is dynamically highlighted in gray on both the English and the original language. At the same time, the specific word under your mouse is highlighted yellow along with the corresponding word it is translated from.)
Book of Mormon
Non-Canonized
- Book of Enoch
- The Lectures on Faith
Prepared under the direction of the Prophet Joseph Smith (HC 2:180), these seven "lectures on theology" (HC 2:176) were presented to the School for the Elders in the early winter of 1834-1835 in Kirtland, OH. The school was organized to help Church leaders and missionaries "[qualify] themselves as messengers of Jesus Christ, to be ready to do His will in carrying glad tidings to all that would open their eyes, ears, and hearts," by being "more perfectly instructed in the great things of God" (HC 2:169-70). For 86 years, the Lectures were part of LDS canon until they were removed in 1921. For more, please click here.
- "the lectures were judiciously arranged and compiled, and were profitable for doctrine. Whereupon, the High Council of Kirtland accepted and acknowledged them as the doctrine and covenants of their faith by a unanimous vote." (Joseph Smith, History of the Church 2:243-244).
- "The first part of the book will be found to contain a series of Lectures as delivered before a Theological class in this place, and in consequence of their embracing the important doctrine of salvation, we have arranged them into the following work." (Joseph Smith, Doctrine and Covenants, preface, 1835)

Hugh Nibley
I found a terrific website (thanks, Deila Taylor!) which features a ton of FREE Hugh Nibley resources -- enough to fill your next 100 years of studying. In fact, I dare say the Millennium will already be well underway and you'd still be only a fraction of the way through these resources.
Please click here to access the free MP3s, here for the free videos and here for the free e-books.

Donald -- Agreed! http://scriptures.byu.edu (also listed above as "LDS Scripture Citation Index") can also be downloaded as a free app. I have it on my smartphone (see their website for details).
ReplyDeleteTruthSeeker -- My pleasure! We're so blessed to have so many terrific research tools at our fingertips. Now, only if I had more time to study them...
You asked for other online sources, I use boap (book of Abraham project) as an online searchable database for teachings of the prophet Joseph smith AnD the parellelism Joseph to research original doctrine and covenants sources.

In addition to the LDS Scripture Citation index, scriptures.byu.edu/gc-historical has downloadable PDF's of General Conference Report from 1900. Pretty awesome!
ReplyDeleteThe Neal A. Maxwell institute (Previously FARMS, I believe) also has a good portion of Nibley, but also some other terrific authors like John Welch. I am also a Blogger and try to incorporate some good resources on there from time to time. I even recently mentioned Kintsukuroi in my recent post also (I Found your blog because after someone read mine, they directed me to yours to see if we had come up with any similar conclusions).
